Each of us would like to have a decent job with a decent payment and a bunch of charms. However, we are all different, and therefore we choose different areas and different jobs. Someone works in Google, and someone works in the United Nations Organization (UN). For example, World Bank jobs are a great choice!
How it is organized
Depending on the workload and availability of employees, World Bank announces a competition for a certain number of interns. Based on the duration of their internship, the number may vary. For example, the position of an intern on economic issues in department A needs 1 person for a year. One trainee can come for 6 months, another for 4, and a third for 2 months. Accordingly, 3 interns will be replaced in the department during the year. There is a competition here, but not as mad as in the staff position.
Application for internships also counts by thousands (not only in one department, but in the organization as a whole, which increases the chances), HR selects 30/40 people for the department, of which about ten are offered for internships, which will be replaced during the year. If you have chosen a certain period for which the candidate is applying better than you, they will not make you an offer. The average age of trainees varies in the region of 27-28 years.
Firstly, working at the World Bank is a good experience. For example, you can participate in writing a UN publication (your contribution will be noted in the Acknowledgment), and learn how to write briefings. Secondly, you will recognize many good people who can seriously help you in the future with a job choice or advice. Thirdly, the chance of being offered a contract increases. There are no guarantees, but if they need a person, it will be easier to hire you (if you are suitable according to requirements) than to look for someone from the outside. Fourth, constant communication with different people from different cultures will expand your knowledge and indirectly increase your profile.
How to apply
If you nevertheless decided that the promotion of sustainable development or the struggle for world peace is what you would like to do, then feel free to submit documents to the UN:
To get started, find an open position here: https://careers.un.org/.
If you meet the requirements, then fill out the PHP form at https://inspira.un.org/.
In addition to the above site, recheck the position and requirements with the organization’s site. It happens that organizations ask you to directly send them the P11 form (or the form may differ from the one in the system). Pay special attention to the Cover letter. It should be capacious in content, but brief. This is not just a motivational letter in which you say how much you want to work in the organization, but with the help of which the department will evaluate your analytical abilities and see what value-added you can bring.
